Tips for an Environment-Friendly Move

Millions of people are moving every year and with the rise of household wastes, it is only reasonable to cut down the waste we create every time we move.
How to Minimize Moving Waste
1.    Reuse cardboard boxes - When packing, consider getting boxes from local supermarkets or liquor stores. You can also ask some friends or neighbors who have recently moved for used boxes.
2.    Search for alternative packing containers -Instead of using new boxes or plastic bags, you can fill duffel bags and suitcases with small items such as toys, clothing and linens.
3.    Recycle the boxes you have used after you have moved in.
4.    Ask your moving company if you can hire reusable storage crates. These usually last a decade and can be recycled.
5.    Instead of plastic or bubble wrap, use wadded newsprints in packing fragile items.
6.    Consider using environment-friendly packing materials such as cushioning peanut made of biodegradable cornstarch, bubble wrap made of recycled plastic. Don't forget to reuse or recycle these materials once you're done with them.
7.    Dispose chemical solutions such as paint and cleaners properly. Find out if your moving company or local government provides drop-off spots for such materials.
8.    If possible, use recyclable latex paint for your painting jobs.
9.    Conduct a yard sale before you move to lighten your load. Make money from old clothes, toys, appliances and books.
10.  Left over items should be dropped off to charity.
