Wine Moving and Packing Tips

It is hard enough to move valuables, let alone an expensive collection of wines. You need to make sure that bottles don't break and most importantly, the taste and color are not altered. So, what is the best way to shift a wine collection? To find out how you can successfully shift wines, you need to first understand the importance of keeping good temperature for the wines.

Temperature change is critical when storing and shifting wines, especially with the older bottles. Changes in wine color and taste is caused by temperature change. The ideal temperature for wine storage is 55 degrees.
A car is the best way to transfer wines because it is climate controlled. Unlike moving trucks, cars don't get hot or cold easily. If you are not driving to your destination, consider hiring temperature-controlled wine transportation companies.

It is recommended that you pack wines in Styrofoam. Styrofoam provides protection and good insulation. If you want to use specialty wind boxes, be sure to wrap the wine bottles individually with packing paper to avoid shifting during transit. Fill in gaps with more packing paper or bubble wrap.

If you are flying and only have a few bottles to move, take them with you on your flight. Most airplanes provide wine luggage carriers to avoid damage and leakage.
